live outside


Our MCM House Exclusive PE Rope was designed in house, made for the way we actually live outside in Australia, and it runs through some of the season's best pieces. Here's how it came together.

I wanted something that felt crafted and tactile, but could genuinely stand up to an Australian summer. Nothing out there did both, so we made our own.

So, why make our own rope?

Outdoor furniture in Australia has a hard job to do. Long days of UV, salt air, sudden downpours and heat that does not let up. Most rope either looks lovely and fades fast, or lasts the distance but feels hard and synthetic. We did not want to pick one, so we developed a rope that does both.

The result is a PE (polyethylene) rope made exclusively by MCM House. 
UV and fade resistant, quick drying and mould resistant, with high tensile strength and
 real durability, yet soft enough to keep the tactility and character of a proper woven finish.

Where the craft comes in

For all its performance, the best part is how it goes on. Each piece is wrapped by artisans, often using one continuous length of rope, so no two are ever exactly the same. It is where the engineering meets the human hand.

The pieces built on rope

The MCM House Exclusive PE Rope appears across four Paradiso designs, each using it a little differently.

A statement design with double tubular legs and 
wide arms, the rope wrapped in one continuous 
length and softened by deep cushioning.

Our most refined expression of outdoor design. Sculptural double panel rope work, hand wrapped over a slender frame, almost origami in feel.

A lighter touch for outdoor dining. The same exclusive rope in a slim, handwoven dining chair, now in a rich new Espresso finish.

An icon, reclined. Hand wrapped rope arm detailing brings warmth and craft to the new sun lounger format.
